ETHIOPIAN COFFEE

If you know anything about coffee, you will know that it is enjoyed by millions, but it is a particular passion for the Ethiopians. As coffee is said to have been founded in Ethiopia, it could be one of the reasons that coffee is tightly bound with the daily life of its people. Not only is it the glorious site of elaborate coffee-making ceremonies, but it is also consumed at the beginning of every day, celebrated as a conclusion to a meal, a means to pass the time, and an offering made to guests.

Arabica coffee has its origin in Ethiopia.  Ethiopia is the largest coffee producer in Africa and the fifth-largest producer in the world.

The statistics are staggering. Out of all the coffee it produces, Ethiopians consume more than half; that’s about one hundred million people consuming five hundred million pounds of coffee, making them the highest consumers of the beverage in the world.

In Ethiopia, Arabica coffee is mostly grown in the forest areas of the southwestern highlands of the Kaffa and Buno districts. Around 400,000 hectares area of Ethiopia is under coffee cultivation. The country produces almost 200,000 metric tons of coffee every year. 95% of the coffee is produced in the forest area and is claimed to be organic. A major part of the Ethiopian coffee is exported in green coffee beans form, to the Rest of the World. This factor gives a key advantage to Ethiopian coffee in the international market. http://bit.ly/2NmcIvU
